Why is it called the Golden Gate Bridge when it is painted red-orange?

Per Gretchen: The bridge did not get it's name from either it's "golden" orange color or that it seems like a "gate" into San Francisco. It took it's name from the Golden Gate Strait, the waterway over which it passes. The strait connects the bay to the Pacific Ocean. The strait was named in about 1849 by a U.S. army captain who said it reminded him of Istanbul, Turkey's Golden Horn Harbor.

No matter what you call it, we crossed over it.  The Golden Gate Bridge is 1.7 miles long and very cold and windy.  Poor Gretch was wearing flip flops.  I don't think her feet thawed out until the next day.  We had such a wonderful time together.

The many faces of Danny

Danny is such a joy to be around!  WE LOVE YOU DANNY!!!

Easter with Gretch

Gretchen came and spent Easter with us.  She helped Danny find his Easter Eggs and they all dyed eggs together.  Unfortunately the eggs weren't cooked all of the way so they had to be thrown out.  Danny got a real haul.  He got lots of candy but he also got a Teather Ball.  It is lots of fun to play.  Justin and I played and I was winning until he figured out that if he hits it really high over my head I can't reach it to hit it back.

Gretchen Came To Visit

For Spring Break Gretchen came and visited us.  We had such a wonderful time.  Danny showed her his school Monkey Bars (yes, she actually did swing across them).  We also went to Temple Hill and saw an Easter Oration.  It was all singing with an orchestra about the last few days of Christ's life.  It was so amazing. We had such a great time with Gretch!

Danny's 7th Birthday

In March Danny turned 7.  We decided we would have a big birthday party this year.  He invited a few friends and had it at a bowling alley on Saturday, the day before his birthday.  It was so awesome.  All we had to do was bring the cake and Danny and they did the rest.  They even provided ice cream and drinks and the clean up.  It was a crazy day!  Right before we left Justin reminded me to bring the camera.  We got to the stop light and he asked if I remembered it.  I forgot it so we had to turn around and go back and get it.  After we got it we made it a few car lenghts past the stop light and he asked if I remembered candles and a lighter.  I forgot those too.  We didn't have enough time to go back so during the bowling part Justin went out to the store and bought some. When we came home we opened his presents.  He made out like a bandit.
Next year he is turning 8 and we will have his baptism and a small family party.

My 36th Birthday

Danny Lost His First Tooth!

Danny Lost His First Tooth!

His tooth had been loose for 2 weeks but he didn't want to pull it out so finally, when we were in the grocery store he wiggled it and it just popped right out.

Pinewood Derby

In January Danny went to his first Pinewood Derby.  He ran against all of the other Tigers and took 2nd Place.  He was so proud.  They even gave them a little pin of a car to put on his brag vest.

Legoland

As part of our vacation we went to Legoland.  We had lots of fun.  The first thing we did was make a Lego race car, sort of like a pinewood derby car.  Danny made one and then raced it down a track.  He really liked making that and it took a little persuasion to get him to go to the next activity.
Everything was made out of Legos or had a Lego box shape to it.  They even had a life size car made from Legos.  Because it was Winter they had a little section that had man made snow.  Danny liked going down the little hill.  We didn't know if we would be able to go in because his shoes were partly opened toe and heel.  They gave us the OK but Danny's feet were cold afterward.
One thing that they had on display was a Star Wars exhibit.  They also had an exhibit of cities around the world.  It was really neat to see the pyramids and the Golden Gate Bridge made out of Legos.  There was even a little room that you could see the mechanics of how Legos were made.  Justin and Danny went on several rides together.  I didn't go on the spinning or up and down ones.  I sat peacefully in the sun reading a book.

We didn't know if Danny would like Legoland because he had never been interested in Legos before.  He fell in love with them and for the next few months all we liked doing is making Legos.

The Mormon Batallion Visiting Center

January 26th our family drove to San Diego for Justin's brother, Cameron's, wedding.  All of Justin's family came and other than sickness, we had a really good time.
On the 27th we went to the Mormon Batallion Visitor's Center.  Justin's great, great, great... somethings were in the Mormon Batallion.  We were even able to look them up on their database and see his photo.  After the video presentations Danny was able to pan for gold, play with the water pump, and ride a horse.

Christmas

THE CLAW

BATMAN & ROBIN

 THE MISSIONARIES

Christmas was really fun.  From Grandma Rydin Danny got a CLAW machine and from Grandma and Grandpa Hutzley he got Batman stuff.  He already had the Bat Cave so he got The Penguin's submarine and The Joker's hideout.

This year we had the missionaries over for Christmas breakfast.  Elder Fong from Hong Kong and Elder Bautista from Canada (born in Manilla).  They were able to call and/or Skype their home.  It was really neat to hear them talk in their own languages (not Canadian but Tagalig). Santa was very busy and even brought them a little something.

Danny, looking dapper as always, dressed up like a missionary with homemade name badge.

Grandma Visits

My Mom came and visited us for a week.  We had such a wonderful time.  After Cameron's wedding, we went to Legoland.  Danny fell in love with Legos and has been passionate about it since.  When Grandma came she bought him some Legos and they had a great time putting them together.  As our Christmas present, we went to the California Academy of Sciences.  There we saw a butterfly garden.  It was beautiful and warm inside but it actually freaked me out a little bit.  It made me think of the movie, The Birds.  After that we saw the penguins and Danny even touched a Star Fish.
