Just Keep Swimming, Just Keep Swimming

This last 2 weeks have been pretty crazy. Danny has taken swim lessons at the community pool and he is totally fearless. Last weekend Justin took him swimming in our pool and someone there had a ring and he played in it and wanted a "donut" too. I took him to Target and we found some rings that sink to the bottom of the pool and this fish ring. In his swim lessons he can't wear any flotation device but we were in the baby pool so he could touch the bottom.

Danny doesn't like swimming on his stomach or floating on his back. Every time we tried to do it he wasn't thrilled and that was over pretty quick. He was with the 2-3 year-old kids and he was the only 3 year-old. All of the kids were just getting used to the water and he wanted to bob up and down underwater. Because he was 3 he couldn't go with the 4 year-old kids much to my disappointment.

This last week he decided that he didn't want to do what the other kids were doing except when we played What Time is it Mr. Shark? or Motor Boat, Motor Boat. He even decided that he didn't want me to help him for The Wheels on the Bus either. That is a tricky one because we all go in a circle and what we do is his arms make the swimming motion for the wheels and when the windows go up and down I pick him out of the water and when we do the wipers I move him from side to side.

So, this week he decided that almost all of his swim time he wanted to throw the sinkable rings and dive after them. At first he would drop the rings in front of him, stick his head under water, and pick them up. He would come up from the water so excited and yell, "I got 'em". He would do this multiple times just coming up for air and go back down again. I asked the instructor if he could hyperventilate with the breathing like that (how would I know, I'm not a swimmer?) and he said he didn't think so. I asked him if any other kids do this and he said he has never seen anyone do this before. So, my kid is unique. As if I didn't know this already.

As a side note, almost every day last week Danny threw a temper-tantrum. Funny story. Last Sunday he woke up and was crabby. He got upset about something and was screaming and I didn't know what was wrong. Up until this point Danny only had 3 real temper-tantrums. We took him downstairs and I took his temperature because I thought something was really wrong with him. Ahhhh, it finally dawned on me that he was having a tantrum. So his whole I'm 3 and I'm going to do what I want transferred over to swim lessons.

I am so glad that he is loving the water. We love swimming! Thanks for the Finding Nemo reference in the title. I love that movie!
