Rice Fields and The Chocolate Hills

As part of our journey inland we took a tour of the man made forest.  It was a huge forest all hand planted to stop errosion and mud slides.  It was pretty, however, the road was winding and I got car sick.  On the way to the Chocolate Hills we passed many rice fields.  Did you know that rice starts out like a seed, grows on a stalk similar to an ear of corn but is covered by water, is harvested and dried out.  Many people dry them by piling them up on the side of the road and between the heat from the asphalt and the wind from the cars they dry out.

This is us at the Chocolate hills.  There are 1,776  cone shape mounds that were formed when limestone was erroded by rain and rivers and then the techtonic plates pushed the limestone upward. During the summer season the vegetation dries up and the hills then look dark like chocolate.
