ATHENS

Athens, Greece
Acropolis, Parthenon, Temple of Athena, Nike, Erechtheion (Hadrian’s Arch, statue of Lord Byron, the Corinthian, Temple of Olympian Zeus, Constitution Square

We took another ship excursion in Athens with a bus tour. More ruins including the Acropolis which was by far the highlight and main attraction to see in Athens. Another stop on the tour was the first modern Olympic Stadium built for the 1896 Olympic Games and then used again in 2004 for archery and a couple of other events. We really enjoyed the time at the Acropolis and seeing the Parthenon. There were a lot of step up to the site but it didn’t seem that bad. There was a large amphitheater at the acropolis as well which was neat to see. As we came back towards the port in Piraeus Greece we got off the bus to explore for a hour or so before going back to the ship. We picked up a Christmas ornament with Greek lettering; also we picked up some other items like bar soap and Diet Coke that we couldn’t find on the ship. We also got a package of water as our supply of bottled water from Barcelona was running out and the ship charged 5.00 for a liter bottle of water. We stopped for a quick bite of Gyros at a small cafĂ© before going back to the ship. They were delicious. The atmosphere in Greece was more urban and less charming overall than Barcelona and Rome but still a very nice place to visit.
